Exercise – The new beginning.

I have always enjoyed being fit.  I can’t say I was ever “athletic” as I grew up in the traditional sense that we think of, however, I always was very active.  While most guys my age were playing team sports such as basketball, baseball, and football, I found myself in other non-traditional sporting usually not associated with a guy from the midwest.

As I grew up, I really enjoyed snow skiing.  As long as I can remember, I have been on the slopes. My father brought my sister and me to the small hills in Michigan to start skiing at a very young age.  I was so small, the chair lift would hit me in
the back of the head if he didn’t pick me up to place me on the chair lift.

I had always enjoyed outdoor activities, but lately, I have not been able to do much secondary to a left shoulder injury.  About one year ago, while in martial arts, I developed a left sided shoulder impingement.  This has really held me up.  I have a hard time doing anything from cardio to weight training because of it.   This has caused me to become somewhat less fit, gaining unwanted weight, and going crazy while living a sedentary lifestyle.

Today that all changes, I have given in to late night TV and joined a very popular brand, Beachbody, in order to start training in my home again.  These are the fine folks that have brought you classics like P90X as well as Insanity.  Today, I began one of their not so popular programs, Less Mills Pump.

This unique a approach to getting fit stresses high reps, low weights.  While I have P90X, and have used it in the past, given my current left sided shoulder injury, perhaps this may be the best approach to get back into tip top shape.  Today was my first day on this program.  It was the “pump challenge”.  Its a 25 minute exercise routine that is geared toward people that are new to fitness.  It  is more instructional than exercise.  That being said, enough weight can make anything feel like work.  Tomorrow is a “day off”, however, I may repeat this work out with more weights.Overall, I am looking forward to getting back into a routine.  If this program doesn’t seem to work for me, I will be pulling out the old trust P90X videos.  I will let you know.  For more information, click the banner below.
